The 2026 opportunity

Solar ATAP + SuRIA Home, explained simply.

For eligible TNB domestic customers in Peninsular Malaysia, Solar ATAP enables self-consumption and export of surplus energy. SuRIA Home helps reduce the upfront cost.

01
Cash rebate

RM600 / kWac

Capped at RM3,000 for eligible Malaysian citizens who have not received a previous SolaRIS cash rebate.

02
Domestic capacity

Up to 5 or 15 kW

Up to 5 kW for single-phase homes and 15 kW for three-phase homes, subject to technical requirements.

03
Solar ATAP tenure

10 years

Surplus-energy offset applies during the programme tenure; the installation then continues for self-consumption.

!
Act before allocation runs out

31 December 2026

The system must be successfully commissioned by the deadline, or before the rebate allocation is fully distributed.

Solar ATAP in one picture

Use your solar first. Export only the extra.

Solar panels generate DC electricity. The inverter converts it into AC electricity for your home. Your appliances use that energy first; only the surplus passes through the meter to the TNB grid.

4

5
TNB grid

Takes surplus and supplies any shortfall.

1
Daytime: save the most

Every solar unit used immediately is one less unit bought from the grid.

2
Surplus: receive an offset

Extra generation is exported and credited under the Solar ATAP residential energy-charge rules.

3
Night: grid or battery

Without a battery, TNB supplies the home. With a battery, stored solar can serve selected evening loads first.

The 45 sen / 55 sen question

What one unit of electricity really costs.

These figures apply to TNB domestic accounts in Peninsular Malaysia. The threshold is based on total monthly kWh, not the RM value shown at the bottom of the bill.

Monthly use≤ 1,500 kWh
About44.43sen / kWh
Energy charge 27.03Capacity 4.55Network 12.85

Standard domestic base components before monthly AFA, incentives, retail charge, applicable levies and tax.

Monthly use> 1,500 kWh
About54.43sen / kWh
Energy charge 37.03Capacity 4.55Network 12.85

The higher Energy Charge applies once total monthly consumption crosses the 1,500 kWh threshold.

Residential Solar ATAP export credit

Not the full 44 / 54 sen.

For a home, exported surplus is offset at the applicable Energy Charge: 27.03 or 37.03 sen/kWh. It is not based on the commercial System Marginal Price.

Self-useis usually worth more thanExport
Key takeaway

Solar used inside your home avoids the energy, capacity and network components. Exporting earns only the applicable residential energy-charge offset. That is why we size for your daytime load first, then test whether a battery can economically shift surplus solar into the evening.

Rates shown: TNB Domestic General Tariff effective from 1 July 2025. Actual bills vary with monthly Automatic Fuel Adjustment, Energy Efficiency Incentive, retail charge, Renewable Energy Fund, service tax and programme terms. Sarawak and Sabah use different utility rules.

From bill to clean energy

Qualified teams install, test and commission the system, with monitoring and after-sales support.

Two honest options

Battery or no battery?

A battery is optional—not automatically necessary. We compare the extra equipment cost against your evening consumption, tariff band, export surplus and backup priorities.

Option 01Lower upfront cost
Standard residential solar system without a battery
Daytime solarSurplus flows through the meter to the grid

Standard solar PV

Solar panels + normal grid-tied inverter

  • Home uses solar directly during the day
  • Surplus exports through the Solar ATAP meter
  • TNB supplies the home at night
  • Does not provide backup during a blackout
Usually best whenYou have meaningful daytime use, want the simplest system and prioritise faster payback.
Option 02More control & resilience
Hybrid residential solar system with a separate inverter and LFP home battery
Solar stored for laterBattery can serve selected evening or backup loads

Hybrid solar + battery

Solar panels + hybrid inverter + LFP battery

  • Stores selected daytime surplus for evening use
  • Can reduce expensive grid purchases after sunset
  • Can support agreed essential loads during outages
  • + Higher upfront cost and project-specific battery sizing
Stronger case whenUsage exceeds 1,500 kWh/month, evening loads are high, or backup power is important.
Our practical battery test

A battery deserves a closer look when two or more are true.

01

Your bill shows more than 1,500 kWh in a month.

02

Most air-conditioning, cooking or EV charging happens after sunset.

03

Your proposed solar system would create significant daytime export.

04

You value backup for lights, internet, fridge or other essential circuits.

Straight answers

Before you put solar on the roof.

Ask another question
Who can receive the RM3,000 SuRIA Home rebate?+

The rebate is for eligible Malaysian citizens who are domestic Solar ATAP customers in Peninsular Malaysia and have not received an earlier SolaRIS cash rebate. It is RM600 per kWac, capped at RM3,000, first-come first-served, subject to the programme terms and available allocation.

How much can solar reduce my electricity bill?+

It depends on your tariff, roof, system size and how much electricity you use during solar-generation hours. We review your latest bill and roof before giving a site-specific estimate. The calculator on this page is an illustration, not a quotation or guarantee.

Does Progressture handle the Solar ATAP application?+

Yes. Our team can manage the design, required technical documents, application, installation, testing and commissioning as one coordinated process, subject to utility and authority requirements.

Is a battery necessary for Solar ATAP?+

No. A standard grid-connected solar PV system can reduce your bill without a battery. A battery becomes more useful when much of your electricity is used after sunset, when you want to retain more daytime solar for your own use, or when selected backup power is important. We compare the additional battery cost against the extra savings and resilience before recommending it.

When does the higher residential tariff apply?+

For TNB domestic customers in Peninsular Malaysia, the base energy, capacity and network components total about 44.43 sen/kWh when monthly consumption is 1,500 kWh or below, and about 54.43 sen/kWh when monthly consumption exceeds 1,500 kWh. Check the kWh on the bill—not only the RM amount. Monthly fuel adjustment, incentives, retail charge, levies and tax can change the final bill.

What is the residential Solar ATAP export price?+

Residential exports are offset using the applicable TNB Energy Charge rate—currently 27.03 sen/kWh at 1,500 kWh or below and 37.03 sen/kWh above 1,500 kWh—subject to the Solar ATAP contract and billing rules. The System Marginal Price is not the residential export basis. Because self-used solar avoids more bill components than export credit alone, correct sizing and daytime use are important.

Can a home battery keep the whole house running in a blackout?+

Backup capability depends on the selected inverter, battery capacity, wiring and the loads placed on the backup circuit. We first identify your essential loads—such as lights, internet, fridge or selected air-conditioning—then design the appropriate configuration.

Do the same incentives apply in Sarawak and Sabah?+

No. Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah operate under different utilities and programme rules. Our regional teams will identify the applicable scheme and incentive based on the property location and account type.
